Electrical Awareness
Date: 6 Sept / 18 Oct (1day) (Overview)
The course is aimed at anyone whose work requires a basic understanding of the safe use of electricity ie plant operatives, maintenance engineers, caretakers and unskilled employees that have no previous awareness of electricity in the workplace, and although not expected to carry out electrical duties, must have a basic awareness of electrical safety.
The course gives an overview of the legislative requirements and non-statutory regulations that must be complied with, combined with basic safety and isolation procedures.
Introduction and overview
Employer/employee responsibilities under the Health & safety at Work act
An overview of the Electricity at Work Regulations
Introduction to BS7671 and its relationship to statutory legislation
Understanding of electric shock and its effects on the body
Safe isolation procedure/ theory
Protective devices
Safe isolation procedure/ practical assessment
