Working at heights - Ladder Safety

A broad introduction to the safe use of steps and ladders at work. This subject has both classroom content and practical exercises involving the use of equipment where available.

It will introduce the employer and employees duties for the use of work equipment and explain the relevant legislation as well as the responsibilities that these bring.

There will be a detailed explanation of the different types of steps and ladders, their components and maintenance requirements and how to identify faults.

Manual Handling (Objects)

Suitable for those people who carry out manual handling activities at work and introduces students to the hazards of manual handling, the risks, and the controls and what to expect from a manual handling assessment. Subjects covered include:-

  • Manual handling injuries
  • Causes of injuries

C.O.S.H.H. (Hazardous substances)

Successful completion will prepare students to look carefully at their own work activities and contribute to the safer use of hazardous substances in co-operation with their managers and supervisors.

It is aimed at those who use substances hazardous to health at work and introduces students to the hazards associated with those substances, the risks, the controls available and what to expect from a C.O.S.H.H. assessment.

Subjects covered include:

  • Definition and types of hazardous substances in the workplace
  • Health affects of hazardous substances and their causes
  • COSHH assessment and control options
  • Responsibilities under the regulations 

Duration of Course;

 The course is designed to be delivered within five hours.
A certificate of attendance will be provided for all candidates.
